About Us

If you’re ever been to the West Coast, you know about the fog. The way it’s thick enough to cut with a knife, the way it carries the smell of salt water and seaweed through the streets, and the way it demands, above all else, wool socks and the finest cup of coffee. On the edge of Ucluelet, BC, Canada, surrounded by the majesty of West Coast wilderness and wildlife, we practice the craft of producing that very cup every day.

It was the rainforest, surf, and trails of the Pacific Rim that drew our family to Canada’s extraordinary West Coast.

But as we settled into the community of Ucluelet, we found ourselves hunting for coffee as magical as the place we called home. Something vibrant. Something formidable. Something that could stand up against the Pacific’s winter gales.

We immersed ourselves in learning about roasting, beans, growing regions, blending, and all things coffee: committed to developing the perfect roast. And we’ve continued to expand our knowledge and gain experience over the years, dedicating ourselves to sustainable business practices by sourcing ethically traded coffees that are grown organically whenever possible.

We’re family-owned and operated, and keep things simple with a small roastery crew who share the same passion for delicious coffee that we do.

Our newest project is the Foggy Bean Coffee Bar at 1601 Peninsula Road, Unit C. You can find us in a beautifully repurposed historical building, the iconic former St. Aiden's Church. Located on a hill with incredible views of Mt Ozzard and the inner harbour. We share this building with the Ucluelet Brewing Company, which is scheduled to open the fall of 2019. At the coffee bar we focus on pouring delicious coffee with our beautiful La Marzocco Linea PB/ABR, pour-over coffee, cold brewed coffee and batch brewed filter coffees. A small retail section features our own freshly roasted coffee, locally-made mugs and home coffee brewing equipment.

Ucluelet has been an amazing place to build our dream. When not roasting coffee, our family spends time in the surf and on the beach, walking the Wild Pacific Trail, and exploring the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. We like to get out and take part in our community, which is why we started the Foggy Bean Coffee Espresso Cart: a vintage spring lever espresso machine that we can take to local markets and community events. We love connecting with you, our customer, and hope to have more opportunities to be face-to-face in the future. Foggy Bean Coffee is always expanding, so who knows where you’ll enjoy our fresh, vibrant blends next!

We’re thankful to be able to serve our community and be part of what makes it special. But more so we’re grateful to you for making us part of your coffee ritual.

Thank-you!

Jeff, Heather and the Foggy Bean Coffee team.
